Man accused in Sedalia shooting arrested
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man who was accused of a Tuesday morning shooting has been arrested, according to a social media post from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office.
Bear Hagston was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He was arrested on Tuesday evening and is being held at the Pettis County Jail without bond. Court records say Hagston is from Sedalia, but the sheriff’s office wrote that he is from Kansas City.
An arraignment was held on Wednesday at the Pettis County Courthouse. Hagston appeared by video from the jail and pleaded not guilty. A hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23.
According to previous reporting, Hagston shot a woman in the neck in the 400 block block of North Prospect Avenue around 1 a.m. Tuesday. The victim was flown to a hospital with a gunshot wound. A witness told investigators that Hagston and the victim had been fighting in their front yard before the shooting, court documents say.
The witness saw Hagston run after the shooting and police found a partially loaded pistol magazine at the scene, court documents say.
According to Wednesday’s social media post, after Hagston was arrestd in the 11000 block of Alexander Road, a search warrant was executed at the resident and methamphetamine was found. Three people were arrested on suspicion of drug possession and were placed on 24-hour holds: Dylon Motley, of Sedalia, and Richard Buckner and Michael Butler, both of Marshall.
