Mizzou baseball falls to SIUE in midweek action
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
After earning first-year skipper Kerrick Jackson's first SEC series win in the form of a three-game sweep against No. 6 Florida over the weekend, the vibes were high for Mizzou baseball headed into Tuesday night's midweek meeting with SIUE. However, it did not go as planned, as the Cougars shocked the Tigers 5-4.
MU got out to an early lead in the second inning when Matt Garcia scored on a pop out from Brock Daniels, but the Tiger pitching staff didn't have an answer for the SIUE bats.
Starter Daniel Wissler let three runs go in the fifth inning to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead over Mizzou. SIUE added on one more at the top of the sixth to make it a three-run advantage.
The MU bats did manage to respond with a big three-run bottom of the sixth to tie the game at four, but those were the last runs Mizzou would score.
All it took was one more run for SIUE in the seventh inning, off the bat of Ethan Willoughby, to secure a one-run upset over Jackson's Tigers.
Victor Quinn is charged with the loss on the hill for Mizzou. He threw for 1.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits.
Up next - Mizzou will take a road trip to Athens, Georgia to meet the Bulldogs for a three-game series. Game one will get underway on Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m.
