Tracking a warm day with increasing high clouds for tomorrow’s solar eclipse

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and cool with lows in the mid-40s and continued gusty winds.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny with increasing high thin clouds. Cloud coverage should hold off long enough to get a good viewing of the total solar eclipse in the afternoon. Highs in the mid-upper 70s.

EXTENDED: Clouds begin to spread in ahead of a cold front during the day, but the cloud type will be key for viewing the total solar eclipse in the afternoon. Forecast moisture levels are lower in the lower atmosphere across much of the region, meaning the cloud type will be more of the wispy, thin clouds versus thicker cumulus or stratus clouds that would hinder our eclipse viewing. That said, by evening we can expect more uniform cloud cover and a low chance for a few showers or thunderstorms overnight. Tuesday isn't much cooler behind the front as temperatures remain in the low 70s, but another storm system will pull a cold front through on Wednesday. Scattered showers and a few storms will be possible with around 0.1" of rain expected. The end of the week will be slightly cooler but quiet, with a big warm up coming for the weekend as we reach near 80 degrees.
