Quiet performance at plate dooms Mizzou in upset loss to SEMO

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Softball's 12-game non-conference winning streak has been snapped. SEMO upset the No. 11 Tigers 1-0 on Wednesday evening, posting the program's highest ranked win since the Redhawks joined the NCAA Division I level.

SEMO's Paytience Holman tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out three batters. An RBI double from Brittany Affolter scored the game's lone run as the Redhawks ended the contest with two more hits than the Tigers.

However, the Mizzou pitching staff did not allow any earned runs on Wednesday. Laurin Krings started in the circle for the Tigers and gave up four hits while striking out four batters over four innings of work. Marissa McCann relieved Krings in the fifth frame, and the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week matched her career-high with five strikeouts in the final three innings of action.

Up next - Mizzou returns to SEC action on Friday, kicking off a three-game set with No. 19 Arkansas. The first pitch for this rivalry is scheduled for April 5 at 5 p.m. in Fayetteville.
