WHAT’S GOING AROUND: Doctors say flu season is over as cases decline
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Boone Health in Columbia
Dr. Robin Blount with Boone Health says the flu season is officially over.
She says this means the amount of flu in the community is low enough to not expect any excessive cases for the spring and summer.
Blount says cases of respiratory viruses and COVID-19 also saw a steady decline over the past few months.
MU Health Care
Dr. Laura Morris with MU Health Care says they are seeing a decline in numbers at their facilities.
Morris says over the past two weeks they have seen a consistent decline in influenza, RSV and COVID infections.
She says over the fall and winter there was a more traditional respiratory virus pattern and we can expect to see infections drop as we move through the spring.
Unless you're traveling to an area where the flu is at a higher level, Morris says most people do not need to seek a flu shot at this time.
Morris also noted the best time for adults to get the RSV vaccine is late summer or early fall.
It is recommended to stay up to date with COVID-19 boosters for adults and those who are immunocompromised.
