Two Mizzou softball players earn SEC weekly honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two members of the No. 11 Mizzou softball team earned nods from the Southeastern Conference, on Tuesday. For the second-straight week, pitcher Marissa McCann was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, while designated player Mya Dodge was named the SEC Player of the Week.
Dodge had a massive week at the dish, as the Tigers hit the road for a four-game, East Coast road trip March 26-30. The Northern Iowa transfer tallied 11 RBI on seven hits and two home runs, hitting .583 in MU's undefeated trip. It was, by far, the best stretch that the junior has seen so far in 2024.
She is batting .276 in her debut season with Mizzou, which ranks sixth on the team.
McCann is in her second consecutive week with conference honors, as she was also named the Freshman of the Week on March 26.
The freshman earned two wins on MU's four-game road swing to improve to 10-2 in 2024. Against, Hofstra she threw five strikeouts in five innings of action, allowing just one run. McCann then followed up that performance with a three-strikeout day against Villanova, on Sunday. In that game she didn't allow any runs, yielding just two hits.
Up next - Dodge, McCann and the No. 11 Tigers will host Southeast Missouri State in midweek action on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m. Mizzou will then hit the road, again, for a series against Arkansas April 5-7.
