COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Thousands of homes and businesses remained in the dark Tuesday morning in the southern areas of Mid-Missouri while many residents were left to clean up damage after strong storms overnight.
More than 2,800 electric cooperative members in Pulaski County were without power a little before noon. Most of them are members of Laclede Electric. Another 645 members of other cooperatives were down in Phelps County, along with 279 in Camden.
Damage was reported to the National Weather Service in Springfield starting late Monday. The weather service received ports of holes in a roof and other damage to buildings. Another report said trees were uprooted in Phelps County.
The City of St. Robert posted on Facebook early Tuesday saying trees and power lines were down around town. Springfield station KY3 reported damage to a building at the St. Robert Police Department.
A flood warning was in effect Tuesday for the Maries River near Westphalia and for areas along Tavern Creek. The weather service said flooding could be happening in Iberia, St. Elizabeth, Tuscumbia, Brumeley, Lake of the Ozarks State Park and other areas near the lake.
Storms also led to large hail and flooding in other parts of Mid-Missouri, especially in Cole County.
Several low-lying, flood-prone roads in Cole County remained closed Tuesday afternoon.
