Mizzou ends NCAA Wrestling Championships with three top six finishes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

After three days of action at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Kansas City, Tiger Style is returning to Columbia with three All-Americans. Three different Mizzou wrestlers earned a sixth place finish or higher on Saturday, and the Tigers ended the national tournament in a tie with NC State for 11th place as a team.

Keegan O'Toole earned a third place medal in the 165-pound weight class, winning both of his matches in Session V. O'Toole began Saturday's action with a technical fall, and then, he posted a 12-8 win by decision in the third place bout. The four-time All-American joined Ben Askren as the only MU wrestlers to ever finish in the top three of the NCAA Tournament four times. O'Toole was also named the 2024 Gorrarian Award winner, which is given to the wrester with the most wins by fall at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Zach Elam closed out his senior season by securing a fourth place finish at the national tournament. The two-time All-American advanced to the third place bout in the 285-pound weight class by winning his first match on Saturday 1-0 by decision. However, he later fell to Air Force's Wyatt Hendrickson to claim fourth place, his highest-ever finish at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Rocky Elam lost both of his bouts on Saturday in the 197-pound weight class to end his season in sixth place at the national tournament. The four-time All-American suffered a pair of decision losses to Cornell's Jacob Cardenas and South Dakota State's Tanner Sloan.

Mizzou Wrestling wraps up its 2023-24 campaign with a 10-4 overall record, a fourth place finish at the Big 12 Championships and an 11th place finish at the NCAA Tournament.
