A man was arrested after he allegedly admitted to stabbing another man on Wednesday night on Tenth Street in Columbia, according to court documents and a press release from the Columbia Police Department.

Justin Trim, 33, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. His address is listed as Columbia on Casenet. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement and the release, police were called to the area and found the victim with a stab wound in the right side of their chest. The victim was brought to the emergency room at University Hospital for his injuries, which included a collapsed lung, according to the probable cause statement.

Police found a pocket knife with a “red substance that appeared to be blood” in some mulch, the statement says. Trim was found in the area and was arrested. He allegedly admitted to stabbing the man, court documents say.

A witness allegedly told police that they saw Trim and the victim get into an argument before Trim said “I’m going to stab you.” The witness told police they then saw Trim pull out a knife and stab the victim, the statement says. The victim was interviewed by CPD at University Hospital and said Trim stabbed him in the chest, the statement says.

Police viewed security video from Wabash Bus Station, which allegedly showed the victim walking backwards away from Trim and Trim walking towards him. Trim and the victim were allegedly seen standing next to each other before the victim leaned over and sat on the ground, court documents say.

Trim was also charged in Cole County last year with four counts of felony forgery. A trial is scheduled in that case for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 2.
