Tracking severe storms Thursday ahead of a quiet weekend

TODAY: Thursday is another ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, for potential for more hail, damaging wind, and tornadoes. Storms on radar early this morning will continue to bring heavy rain and severe storm potential through 7 a.m. We will then see a lull in thunderstorm activity. This will give the atmosphere time to recover, and thanks to warm and moist southerly low level winds, it likely will. Plenty of instability is forecast to return, and with a remnant boundary potentially lingering into the afternoon from earlier storms, we will have plenty of shear at both the high and low levels of the atmosphere. Meaning, while we expect hail and damaging wind from well sustained thunderstorms, we also cannot rule out a limited tornado threat. This will be an areawide threat, but the best chances are southeast of a line from Sedalia to Mexico, due to the passing of the cold front this evening. Temperatures this afternoon reach the upper 70s.

TONIGHT: The severe threat will end from northwest to southeast, ending our severe threat likely by midnight, if not shortly after sunset. Skies will likely keep clouds overnight into early Friday, keeping temperatures from falling off a cliff. We'll stay in the 40s overnight.

EXTENDED: After morning clouds, afternoon sun might be enough to get temperatures to just near 60. We'll be mild and sunny on Saturday, with highs in the 60s, but a cold front drops us into the 50s by Sunday afternoon. It's a cooler start to the week next week, with Monday morning starting in the 20s, and highs only reaching 40s. We'll warm back into the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday.
