Mizzou wraps up second week of spring camp with team scrimmage

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Football is now two weeks into spring camp, and Eli Drinkwitz's crew capped off this week's practices with a closed scrimmage on Saturday afternoon.

After that team scrimmage, Mizzou offensive coordinator Kirby Moore, defensive coordinator Corey Batoon and players met with media members and shared some takeaways they had from Saturday's action. Overall, they say both the offense and defense did some things well and identified some areas for improvement.

"[Dreyden Norwood] has had a really good camp. He's made some plays on the ball. He's been very consistent. I think that on the back-end he's really stood out, makes some plays. Joe's had a really good camp, D.C.'s had a very good camp. I hate to pull out individuals. Those are guys maybe today that are on the front of my mind that played really well today," Batoon said. "Every day it's somebody else stepping up and somebody else kind of competing, and so that's kind of what you want to see that back and forth brings out the best in the team."

"We did start fast. We drove down the field. Theo Wease made a big contested catch, which is something that he's continued to do throughout our time here from an offensive standpoint. We had a few other drives where we scored, other ones where we got to be more consistent and take care of the little things," Moore said. "That's all things. That's pre-snap, that's knowing our assignments and just cleaning up the little things."

"We started pretty fast. We had two quick third downs on that first drive. That first drive ended in a touchdown, and I think our second and third drives were a little slow, so just trying to start fast and just maintain that and just keep going without having any dips or what not. That's our plan," Mizzou wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. said.

"I think it went good. They were playing fast out there. We had a turnover today, which is good," Mizzou defensive back Joseph Charleston said. "Something that we can work on is just understanding the scheme a little bit better, but that comes with running through it more."

The Tigers are just one week away from their annual Black and Gold Spring Game. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. at Faurot Field.
