Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips ends Democratic primary challenge and endorses President Joe Biden

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Dean Phillips is ending his long-shot Democratic primary challenge of President Joe Biden after failing to win a primary contest. The Democratic congressman from Minnesota built his White House bid around calls for a new generation of party leadership. Phillips spent freely from his personal fortune but lost every state where he competed. Phillips is endorsing Biden, and that forecloses Phillips running as a third-party challenger on a potential No Labels ticket. He said he hopes Republican Nikki Haley considers an independent bid because he says that would ensure Biden’s return to the White House, whereas other independents in the race would just peel off Biden votes and help Donald Trump.
