Insider Blog: A few isolated strong storms possible on Monday evening
After a record setting Sunday, we're tracking another warm start to the week, but also our first chance for a few strong storms of 2024.
A cold front to our northwest will approach the region tomorrow, with warm temperatures and instability increasing through the day.
Isolated to scattered storms could develop along the front by around or just before sunset, tracking east-southeast through the rest of the night. A few storms could be strong, with heavy downpours and up to quarter size hail.
The most favorable location for severe potential will be up across northeast Missouri where the wind shear is more conducive to stronger updrafts, therefore we are not planning to issue a Weather Alert Day for this event. That said, we'll be on the lookout for an isolated strong storm or two from about 8:00 PM through midnight.
If you have any outdoor plans or are traveling Monday evening, make sure to have the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather App set to your current location. You'll be able to get alerts wherever you are if any warnings are issued. Be sure to allow notifications to get those alerts, along with lightning detection within 15 miles of your location.
