Chiefs release renderings of planned stadium renovations
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Just 15 days after the Royals released renderings of their new ballpark proposal in the Crossroads District of downtown Kansas City, the Chiefs have now unveiled its vision for a renovated GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Clark Hunt, the Chiefs Chairman and CEO, says the total cost of the renovations is estimated at $800 million. He also says the Hunt family plans to invest $300 million into the project and will cover "any cost overruns" to cap the expenses of the state and taxpayers.
Here's a full list of renovations the franchise is planning to make to Arrowhead Stadium:
- New Turf-Covered Activation Zone with Tailgate Areas and Covered Entertainment Space
- New Video Boards
- New Concession Stands, Retail Spaces and Restrooms
- New Upper Concourse Connection Bridge
- Upgraded TV, Wi-Fi, DAS (Distributed Antenna System) and Audio System Technology
- Converting Traditional Concession Stands into Modern Grab-n-Go Markets
- Upper Concourse Canopy
- New Sideline Clubs
- New End Zone Clubs and Suites
- Existing Suite and Club Lounge Renovations
- New VIP Stadium Entry Points
- New Field Access Tunnel
- Improvements and Expansion of Lot O RV Parking Lot
- New Parking Deck on South Side of Stadium
- Expanded Parking on North Side of Stadium
- Reoriented Parking Lots
- Three New Pedestrian Bridges
- Dedicated Rideshare Zone
While an exact number has not been set on what Arrowhead Stadium's capacity will be after the renovations, Hunt says the capacity of the venue will still exceed 70,000 people.
Mark Donovan, the Chiefs President, says the franchise is planning to begin these renovations in 2027 and hopes to complete them by 2030 or 2031.
