NFL commissioner talks diversity in the NFL

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about diversity in the league in a news conference Wednesday afternoon ahead of Super Bowl LIV.

During the news conference Goodell noted that this year is the 100th year of the NFL and touted how far the league has come since it started.

Goodell did say there are some things, like diversity, that the league still needs to work on.

"Clearly we are not where we want to be on this level. You know we've had a lot of work that's gone into not only the Rooney Rule, but our policies overall. It's clear we need to change and do something different, there's no reason to expect that we will have a different outcome next year without those kinds of changes," Goodell said.

The Rooney Rule is a policy requiring every team with a head coaching vacancy to interview at least one diverse candidate.

Goodell went on to say that they are actively holding meetings and are committed to making the changes to ensure the next 100 years showcase a more diverse group of coaches in the NFL.
