Tracking midweek warmth with minimal precipitation forecast

TODAY: Tuesday will be another beautiful day in mid-Missouri. This time, without a glancing blow of snow to our southern most counties. All of us see sunshine and south winds this afternoon, that is, through a few clouds. Partly Cloudy skies and highs in the upper 50s, near 60 for some, is today's forecast.

TONIGHT: Skies are clear again overnight, but wind from the south sustains slightly warmer temperatures compared to Tuesday morning. Wednesday morning starts in the 30s.

EXTENDED: Mostly sunny skies and a southwest wind will help temperatures swell into the low 60s. The warm up is southerly return ahead of a short wave that rolls in overnight, bringing a slight chance fo showers, especially north of I-70. Starting in the 40s on Thursday, we'll have a good jump point, but a wind shift from the system overnight leaves us in the low 50s for highs. Another wave arrives on Friday, this time with a slightly better chance for rain. This likely comes during the day, and brings cooler air on the back side of it. Highs in the 40s during the day will promote rain as a dominant precipitation type, but this will likely switch into the evening, behind the front. How much precipitation we see with this system, either in the form of rain or snow is uncertain, but it's likely on the light side. It's still uncertain whether we'll see meaning precipitation at all, let alone meaningful snow. Still, there's a chance, and right now it sits at about a 20-30 percent chance for light rain, switching to light snow, with minimal accumulations if any at all. This wraps up by Saturday, and while precipitation likely won't have any lasting impact, it will be cool, with highs in the 30s Saturday. A return to southerly flow drives us back above average, into the 50s Sunday and Monday.
