By using pumps from the Missouri Department of Conservation, FF14 Volunteer Fire Department, and a pumper truck from Mid-County Fire to drain the pond. Upon draining, they discovered what they believed to be the rest of Erwin's remains.
On Dec. 16, 2023, Camden County Sheriff's Office found the car after a tip from a property owner and freelance videographer, according to a news release. The car, a light-colored Hyundai, belonged to Donald L. Erwin, who has been missing since 2013.
Following the discovery, on Dec. 25 Camden County authorities and cadaver dogs searched the pond where the vehicle was found, where they found human remains.
