Report shows Super Bowl LVIII is the most expensive on record, local fans say they’ll watch from home
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
According to CNN, this year's super bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and 49ers is the most expensive super bowl on record.
Fans in Columbia told ABC 17 News they plan to watch the game from the comfort of their homes, citing the expensive price. Zach Warhover said he's been a fan of the Chiefs for some time due to his father. Warhover said he hadn't bothered looking at prices for this year's game because of outrageous prices from past years.
"I mean, that's a crazy amount of money for a ticket. I mean, God," Warhover said. "The Super Bowl has always been one of those things where it's the lifestyle of the rich and famous."
The lowest price on Seat Geek as of Tuesday evening, hovered at about $6,940, excluding taxes. The cheapest ticket through TicketMaster amounted to $9,678, with the most-expensive tickets eclipsing $20,000. Stubhub listed its cheapest ticket at $6,454, not including taxes which increases the price to just under $9,000.
CNN reports also states the average price for a ticket comes out to $9,800, a 70% increase from last year's matchup between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Reports also state that the 2020 game was previously the most expensive on record, the last time the two teams faced one another in the Superbowl.
Those tickets were 35% less expensive than this year's game.
Warhover said he anticipates watching the Superbowl at home in the future, despite the fact that he would love to cheer his team on in a live setting.
"So, until my littlest is out of daycare, extra things like the super bowl are kind of out of price range for a bit," Warhover said. "I mean heck, just going to a normal nfl game nowadays seems out of reach for somebody in my generation anyways."
