Wichita woman suspected in death of 14-year-old son is wounded by police after hours long standoff

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say police shot and wounded a Kansas woman who’s suspected of fatally shooting her 14-year-old son. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday that the 43-year-old Wichita woman is expected to survive after she was shot early Monday following hours of negotiations. Police say it started Sunday night when the father of Claude Hodges called to request a welfare check because he couldn’t reach his son. The KBI says officers found a bullet hole in an apartment and called in negotiators. The agency says she was shot later after walking toward officers with a gun. Her son then was found dead inside the apartment.
