Auxvasse police chief resigns, last day is Jan. 31

AUXVASSE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Auxvasse Police Chief Kevin Suedmeyer will be stepping down from his position as chief at the end of the month.

According to an email from City Clerk Missy Hooks, Suedmeyer announced his resignation during the Jan. 16 City Council meeting. The last day of his 19-and-a-half-year career will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, Hooks wrote. Assistant Police Chief Robert Harrison will become the next chief on Feb. 1.

“Chief Suedmeyer has run a great police department in Auxvasse for many years.  He has written and received many grants providing his department with equipment and vehicles that most small towns cannot do,” Hooks wrote. “He maintained the police department in a manner in which it was incorruptible and enforced the law.  Chief Suedmeyer will be missed by many and I am proud to state that I am honored to have worked with him for so many years.”

Auxvasse isn’t the only Mid-Missouri city that has recently changed police chiefs. Jill Schlude was sworn in as Columbia’s new police chief in December after a multi-month search and Scott Young was named Ashland’s new police chief earlier this month after serving as the interim chief since the summer.
