COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Rogers Street in central Columbia was blocked off on Wednesday night and a number of police and other emergency vehicles were seen.

The Columbia Police Department wrote on its social media at 7:40 p.m. that it responded to a report of an assault in the 400 block of Providence Road. Police told ABC 17 News that a possible suspect is not in custody and then stated online that there is no known threat to the community. Police responded to the area around 5:30 p.m.

Police told ABC 17 News at the scene that there was a victim, but information on their condition was not available, but they are receiving treatment at an area hospital. Police stated there is currently no indication of shots being fired.

Boone County Joint Communications sent an alert before 6:40 p.m. stating that the street was blocked off from Providence Road to Fifth Street “due to Police incident. Choose alternate route.” Some police vehicles started leaving the area around 8 p.m. and the street was reopened around 8:30 p.m.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw eight Columbia Police Department patrol vehicles. An ambulance was at the scene, but it left. Scene tape was also seen in the park near the street.
