Woman accused of burning car in Cole County
COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A woman was charged with several felonies after she was accused of burning a car at a Cole County residence.
Laura Schraer, 33, was charged with knowingly burning or exploding, unlawful possession of an illegal weapon, first-degree harassment and armed criminal action. She was arrested on Sunday and no bond was set. An arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cole County Circuit Court.
According to the probable cause statement, a victim stated Schraer was at their house around 5 p.m. Friday and that around 7 p.m. the same day, they were told by a friend that their car windows “didn’t look normal.” But, the victim didn’t investigate at the time.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, the victim opened their car door and saw the vehicle was severely burned, the statement says. The front passenger seat was destroyed from fire, the passenger door was partially melted, windows had smoke damage, the paint on the driver-side door was burned and the roof of the car was destroyed, the statement says.
Cole County Sheriff’s deputies found a Starbucks Frappuccino glass on the passenger seat that contained “rags and the smell of an accelerant,” the statement says.
Schraer was contacted by deputies and she allegedly admitted to creating an explosive and burning the car after a disagreement about child custody on Friday, the statement says.
