Pet safety in extreme cold

slot0 (34)

This weekend looks to see dangerously low temperatures, but not just for yourself, for pets too.

Professionals from the Horton Animal Hospital had important tips for pet owners to remeber this weekend. Some of these tips includes making sure to use pet safe salts, keeping your pet hydrated and make sure the water stays unfrozen, playing dress up to keep pets warm, and finally attending regular check-ups. A few other tips includes making noise before starting your vehicle so cats who like to rest on the warmer engines after use leave the engine bay, avoiding ice so your pet doesn't fall through, and keeping them indoors if at all possible for the next several days.

Wind chills look to dip well below zero this weekend as high winds could cool us to just under -20 degrees.

According to the Humane Society of Missouri, animal abuse ranks as a possible class A misdemeanor, animal neglect ranks as a class C misdemeanor, and second offenders could see even worse punishments.
