Tracking accumulating snowfall Friday with dangerous lows into the weekend

TODAY: Afternoon highs climb to nearly 40 degrees with winds out of the east at 8-12 mph. Skies remain mostly cloudy.

TONIGHT: Overnight lows remain steady for much of Mid-Missouri into the upper 30s. Scattered showers move in after 6 pm for far northern portions of Central Missouri in Northern Macon. After 9 pm, the freezing lines drifts south creating the possibility for a wintry mix for portions of Macon and Chariton counties. Sleet, snow, and rain remains possible for the effected areas during this time. The rest of Mid-Missouri remains mostly cloudy and dry.

EXTENDED: Friday sees widespread showers with the possibility of some thunder mixed in before changing over to snowfall by mid to late morning. Accumulating snowfall amounts look to increase the further to the north and west you go with Columbia and Jefferson City seeing 1-3" and areas south seeing T-1". Greatest totals remain in northern portions of Macon and Chariton counties seeing up to 4". This weekend into next week temperatures cool into the single digits with wind chills reaching between -10 to -20 degrees. Sunday sees chances of snowfall once again.
