More than 600 co-op members remain without power in Macon County
MACON COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
More than 600 Macon Electric Cooperative customers in Macon County were still without power Wednesday afternoon.
Thousands were without power as early as Tuesday morning, according to the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives outage map. More than 2,600 members of the Macon Electric Cooperative in Macon County were without power on Tuesday, with surrounding counties also affected. There were 655 Macon County customers without power at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Randolph County, which also uses MEC, has 190 outages, Monroe County is experiencing 316, Shelby County is down to 149 and Chariton County is at 91.
All of those numbers have fallen from Tuesday. As previously reported, Shelby County had 894 outages from Macon Electric Cooperative, while Randolph County had 329, Monroe County had 332 and Chariton County had 294.
Mike Sutherland, vice president of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives, said nearly 2,000 cooperative members remained without power statewide at 4 p.m. Wednesday. That was down from about 16,000 at the height of the outages.
Boone Electric, Callaway Electric and Howard Electric each sent crews to Macon County to help restore power there, Sutherland said.
MEC stated Wednesday on its social media that there are broken poles and lines on the ground weighed down.

MEC also stated on Facebook at 9:41 a.m. that more than 40 lineman have been dispatched, which includes crews from Callaway Electric Cooperative, Howard Electric Cooperative and Boone Electric Cooperative.
