Mizzou gymnastics secures highest ranking in program history
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou gymnastics team is now the highest ranked SEC team in the land, coming in a No. 3 in the Road To Nationals rankings, on Monday. The Top-3 ranking is the highest in program history.
The high placement comes just days after the Tigers recorded the best season opening score in program history, posting a 197.150 in the Mizzou Invitational, on Saturday. Head coach Shannon Welker and company were one of four teams to hit higher than the 197 mark on opening weekend. The others were No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Utah and No. 4 Alabama.
Mizzou’s performance landed it among the top 20 teams in all four events, as the team ranks No. 3 on floor, No. 4 on beam, No. 10 on vault and No. 16 on bars.
Multiple Tigers also earned top placements through week one. You can find those rankings in the list below.
- Junior Jocelyn Moore - tied for pole position on floor
- Freshman Hannah Norton - No. 13 on floor
- Graduate Sienna Schreiber - No. 6 on beam
- Junior Grace Anne Davis - No. 10 on beam
- Junior Amari Celestine - No. 21 on beam
Up next - it's time for a Top-4 showdown in Tuscaloosa. Mizzou will travel to Alabama to meet the Crimson Tide on Friday, Jan. 12. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. It will be the first piece of conference action for the Tigers.
