Tracking light rain and snow by tomorrow afternoon

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 20s.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy with light rain moving in by afternoon, changing over to a rain/snow mix by evening. Lows around 30. Little to no accumulation expected.

EXTENDED: A low pressure system that will bring a light rain/snow mix starts tomorrow afternoon into early Saturday. We'll likely start off with light rain by mid-late afternoon, mixing with snow showers as temperatures cool on Friday night. A few rain or snow showers could linger into Saturday and clouds stick around. Impacts are not expected, but there could be a grassy dusting south of Highway 50 by Saturday.
Sunday will be dry and cloudy with highs in the upper 30s to around 40. A strong storm system moves off the Pacific coast into the Plains and eventually the Midwest by Monday afternoon. This could bring significant impacts to the Midwest with strong winds and accumulating snowfall. The main questions will be the storm track and how much cold air will push in in tandem with this system to keep snow going and piling up into Tuesday. The storm is still currently off the coast of Alaska. There is a good chance of exceeding 3" of snowfall in Missouri, but exactly where the most widespread high totals will be is still to be determined as the storm gets closer. Right now the timeline looks to be from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon, with the biggest impacts occurring on Monday night into Tuesday morning. Winds could reach 30-40 mph, but I'm not as concerned about blowing snow because it will be a wet snow. A rough estimate for our area is an 8:1 snow to liquid ratio for the event, meaning this will be tough to shovel and get slushy on the roads once it does start to accumulate. I do think we see some rain at least for the beginning part of the event on Monday if precipitation starts in the afternoon when temperatures are still around 40. Total liquid equivalent looks to be around an inch, but not all of that will be snow.  We'll be dry and seasonably chilly Wednesday with a front bringing a chance of a few rain or snow showers on Thursday.
