Mizzou defensive back declares for the NFL Draft
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou defensive back Jaylon Carlies became the third Tiger to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft since MU's win over Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, on Tuesday evening.
Carlies played all four of his college years with the Tigers and will look to make it to the next level with one year of college eligibility left on the table.
In his final season in the black and gold, he started the final 11 games of the year, after missing the season-opening win against South Dakota due to an injury. He ranked third on the team in tackles, with 53, and solo stops, with 30. Carlies also recorded a couple of interceptions, a pair of QB hurries, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in 2023.
He's been a consistent force on the Tiger defense for all four of his years in Columbia, as he's only missed that one game against South Dakota in his MU career. He started all 13 games at safety as a junior, played in all 13 games, 12 of which as a starter, as a sophomore and also played in all 10 games of the COVID-impacted 2020 season.
He joined a couple of other defensive standouts - defensive end Darius Robinson and cornerback Ennis Rakestraw - in declaring for the NFL Draft in the past week.
The NFL Draft will take place in downtown Detroit on April 25-27.
