Tracking a chilly but seasonal start to the new year

THIS MORNING: The new year kicks off cloudy and chilly with morning wind chills in the 20s. Some sunshine is possible later today but won't fully clear.

TODAY: Partly sunny skies will try to help temperatures out, but after a gloomy start highs will struggle into the mid-30s.

EXTENDED: The first week of 2024 looks fairly seasonal but active with several weak disturbances tracking through. Highs will likely remain in the 30s to around 40 degrees thanks to on-and-off clouds from this pattern. We'll end the week with a low pressure system moving in from the west and bringing a chance for rain by Friday night. As temperatures drop Friday night, some of that precipitation could change over to snow to start next weekend. This system may also be the first of many that bring precip to the area for the second week of January.
