According to a news release, Columbia Police responded to the crash, involving a car and a pedestrian, around 6:30 p.m. When on scene, first responders immediately starting helping an adult man who was hit with a car.

A viewer sent a photo to ABC 17 News showing EMS crews on scene appearing to treat a patient laying on the pavement. Several Columbia Police cars are visible in the picture.

Columbia Police ask everyone to take precautions when walking near roads, such as wearing high-visibility clothes. When driving, Columbia Police asks that you do not take your eyes off the road and be aware of pedestrians.

"If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, find a well-lit area of the road where you have a good view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely, and then continue watching for traffic as you cross," Columbia Police said in a news release.
