Flu cases on the rise nationwide, in Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri is seeing moderate levels of the flu, according to the state's weekly report.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services updated its online report on Friday. According to the new data, there were 639 influenza cases reported between Dec. 10 and Dec. 16. Of those cases, 63% were influenza A.

So far this flu season, Missouri has reported 6,585 cases. Influenza A made up 61% of those infections.

Flu cases are also increasing nationwide. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), seasonal flu activity is rising, along with flu-related hospital admissions.

The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older get the annual flu vaccine.

Health officials are also watching the COVID-19 subvariant JN.1. According to the CDC, it now makes up 44.2% of COVID-19 infections in the United States.

The CDC's website says existing vaccines and tests still work well against the variant.
