Tracking a Christmas weekend storm

TODAY: Wednesday will be a noticeably warmer day, with lows early this morning in the 30s, and highs this afternoon expected in the mid-50s. We'll start with sunshine through some partly cloudy skies, but become mostly cloudy by the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Winds remain southerly, and clouds stick around. This keeps temperatures in the 40s overnight.

EXTENDED: Clouds remain throughout Thursday, but a warm start, and continued south winds will keep our forecast in the 50s. As warmth and moisture builds in, we'll be tracking a shortwave that will move in from the southwest Thursday evening. This disturbance in the upper levels will spawn an area of low pressure at the surface. The speed of this element is slowing in the forecast, so chances for rain Thursday evening are lowering, but still increasing for Friday as confidence in the system continues to increase. We'll keep a chance for showers, generally after the dinner hour in the forecast Thursday. This system moves in overnight, and lingers into Friday, potentially Friday afternoon. We generally expect near a quarter of an inch from this system, but more rain is on the way. We'll get a break likely on Saturday, with rain returning at the soonest late that night, but likely holding off until Sunday morning. Another low moves in from the west on Christmas eve, bringing several waves of rainfall through Sunday and Monday, Christmas Day. Between this and Friday's rain, some could see an inch or more of rain. Temperatures are expected to bring lows in the 40s and highs in the 50s through Christmas, before a cooldown into next week, where low precipitation chances linger. No severe weather, nor snow is forecast.
