Ceremony held on 82nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor attacks

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A ceremony was held Thursday at the plaza at the Boone County Courthouse to mark the 82nd anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor.

The ceremony began at 11:55 a.m., the time of the attacks on Dec. 7, 1941, in Central Standard Time.

The event included speakers and a message from Secretary Of The Navy Carlos Del Toro.

The event was bookended with a bell toll for the ships lost during the attack, those lost in each service branch, as well as civilians.

Navy veteran Kenneth Fields spoke about the important role the Navy played in the war.

"The Navy played a very large role in the efforts towards the war and towards winning the war,” he said. And the battleship USS Missouri was where the war ended with the signing between Japan and the US."
