Road crews focus on side streets as main routes improve
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia road crews are treating priority and non-priority routes throughout the day on Friday and have crews scheduled to continue through the night.
The National Weather Service has received reports of up to 6.5 inches of snow observed in Columbia and other areas of Mid-Missouri. Roads were snow-covered for the morning commute.
The snow led to the closure of schools and organizations around the area. A full list of closures is available by clicking here.
Columbia Public Works had a 22-person crew treating priority routes overnight into Friday morning. Road crews were expected at about 1 p.m. to start working on neighborhood streets and subdivisions as priority routes were mostly clear, the department said in a news release.
The Missouri Department of Transportation online traveler map showed early Friday afternoon that major highways were mostly clear or clear around Columbia and Jefferson City.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F tweeted that troopers had been sent to 56 calls for service and 19 crashes, including 25 stranded motorists, one injury and no fatalities through 10 a.m. Friday.
