UM Board of Curators passes resolution for Memorial Stadium renovations

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Athletics announced the UM System Board of Curators passed a resolution during an executive session of Thursday's meeting to begin making renovations to Memorial Stadium, according to a Friday press release.

The resolution allows Mizzou Athletics to take its first steps toward renovating Memorial Stadium by seeking to hire an architecture firm and engineering group to consult on improvement plans.

The Memorial Stadium renovations include a redevelopment of the North Concourse. It also involves installing an expanded north videoboard and upgraded sound system for the 2024 football season, which the university has already started the process of completing.

"We appreciate the support and guidance that our Board of Curators and President Choi have provided to ensure that Mizzou Football delivers a first-class experience for our team, our students and our loyal fans," MU Athletics Director Desireé Reed Francois said in the press release. "We look forward to developing further programming plans for Memorial Stadium, but rest assured, the historic Rock M behind the north end zone will be preserved in its traditional place on Faurot Field."

"Thank you to the Board of Curators, President Choi and Desireé Reed-Francois for their continued investment in our football program," Mizzou head football coach Eli Drinkwitz said in Friday's press release. "Memorial Stadium has been packed all season long with five straight sellouts and we look forward to the north end zone development along with other stadium improvements."

Mizzou Athletics is expected to present its choice of firm for the Board of Curators to approve by January 2024 and present its complete plans for the renovations by April 2024.
