Chiefs bounce back with win over Dolphins in Frankfurt
FRANKFURT, Germany (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Chiefs hung on for a bounce back, 21-14, victory over the Miami Dolphins in Germany on Sunday afternoon. With the win, KC improved to 7-2 on the season.
It was an all around effort for points at Deutsch Bank Park. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes came out firing hitting both Rashee Rice and Jerick McKinnon for touchdowns in the opening quarters to give his team the 14-0 lead.
However, Kansas City was up by three scores before the break, courtesy of a big defensive play. Cornerback Trent McDuffie forced former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill to fumble the football and a lateral later, safety Bryan Cook brought it home for a scoop and score.
The KC offense turned stagnant in the second half. Mahomes and company did not put up any more points against Miami.
The Dolphins did make it a game, though. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa put together a couple of touchdown drives in the third quarter to make it a one possession game, 21-14. However, the Chiefs defense stood tall and shut the Fins out in the fourth quarter, as McDuffie led that unit with 10 total tackles on the day
Mahomes completed about 60 percent of his passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Noah Gray led the receiving core with 34 yards on three catches.
Miami did a good job limiting star tight end Travis Kelce, as he finished with just 14 yards on three catches.
Up next - Kansas City will return stateside to host a Super Bowl LVII rematch at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Philadelphia Eagles will be in town on Monday, Nov. 20 for Monday Night Football. Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m.
