Yancey picked as family court commissioner for 13th Judicial Circuit

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Gretchen Yancey was unanimously picked on Thursday to become the next family court commissioner in the 13th Judicial Circuit Court, according to a Thursday press release from the court.

She was picked during a Court en Banc closed session, according to the release. Her appointment will begin March 1.  She is currently a partner at VanMatre Law Firm, the release states.

The Family Court Commissioner primarily presides over dissolutions, motions to modify, and paternity cases. The release states the appointment was needed because of the upcoming retirement of Commissioner Sara Miller, who served for 29 years.

The release states Yancey has more than 20 years of experience in family law litigation and mediation. According to the release, she graduated from Drury University in 1998; and earned her juris doctor degree in 2000 from University of Missouri – Columbia.

She is a board member of the Missouri Bar Association Family Law Committee, and served as President of the Boone County Bar Association in 2021, according to the release.
