Buy Missouri week kicks off Sunday, focusing on shopping local

Buy Missouri week begins Sunday, showcasing local businesses throughout the state.
Missouri is one of the worst states to start a business. Missouri has the highest rate of business failures in the last five years, according to the Lending Tree. According to the U.S. Bureau of Statics, Missouri has the second highest rate of business failures within the first year.
Despite what statistics show, Kim Silvey, owner of Silvey Soap, said she feels like Missouri has been very supportive of her business that she started eight years ago.
"I love coming to festivals where I can actually meet the people and see who I'm serving, and I love to hear their stories. And it's nice when somebody comes up, and I know exactly what they want, and I have it there for them," Silvey said.
Silvey focuses on keeping her products Missouri made.
"I like to put as many Missouri things in my soap as I can," Silvey said. "My lavender comes from Bland, Missouri. The sunflower oil that I put in my soap comes from Hannibal, Missouri. Show Me HH Farms. And so we're all a tight-knit community that we try to help each other out whenever we can."
