Columbia mobile shower trailer pilot program ends Friday, costs $100,000

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Friday is the last day of a pilot program in Columbia involving a mobile shower trailer.

The trailer was set up last week at the Ashley Street Pavilion, according to an email from City of Columbia Senior Planner Kari Utterback. About eight people used the showers on Thursday and seven used it on Thursday, Oct. 5, Utterback said.

The trailer cost around $100,000, according to Utterback. The trailer includes three stalls – one that is ADA compliant with a ramp -- each with a shower, toilet and sink.

While the trailers are mostly used for Columbia’s homeless population, Utterback said it can also be used during natural disasters.

Utterback said the city will have more information on when the showers can be expected to become permanent, once feedback is gathered.
