MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A lawyer for a former Memphis officer made an unconfirmed claim in court filings in the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols that investigators found the hallucinogenic drug psilocybin and stolen credit cards in Nichols’ car from his fatal Jan. 7 encounter with police. Authorities have not confirmed the claims and a lawyer for the Nichols family didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Nichols died days after the Jan. 7 beating by five officers. The ex-officers have pleaded not guilty to state and federal charges involving Nichols’ death. An autopsy report did not show any psilocybin in Nichols’ system and authorities haven’t said what was found in his car, saying that information was confidential.
