JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Red Lobster in Jefferson City will be closed for several weeks, according to a company spokeswoman, after a fire caused about $300,000 worth of damage on Sept. 26.

A reopening date has not been determined, according to an email from Red Lobster spokeswoman Lori Cherry.

A fire started in the utility room of the restaurant – located in the 3500 block of Country Club Drive – and spread to the attic of the building, according to a Sept. 26 email from the Jefferson City Fire Department. Smoke damage was seen throughout the building, according to JCFD.

The fire was ruled accidental and $300,000 worth of damage was reported in the fire report.

According to the fire report, there were smoke detectors in the building. However, they did not work for an undetermined reason. The building had a foam, automated fire extinguishing system, but the report states it did not activate because the fire was too small.
