Columbia man killed in crash Tuesday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was killed in a crash in west Columbia late Tuesday, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Two cars were involved in a head-on crash on Stadium Boulevard near West Boulevard around 11:10 p.m., CPD said in a news release.

John D. Searle, 64, of Columbia, was driving a 2014 Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV in the eastbound lane when the driver of a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck going in the opposite direction crossed over and hit the Mazda head-on.

Searle died from his injuries, CPD said in a press release.

Police said both drivers were extricated from their vehicles and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Searle was wearing his seat belt while the driver of the GMC was not, police say. The name of the truck driver has not been released.

Emergency dispatchers sent out a public late around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday saying Stadium had been closed from West Boulevard to Carrie Francke Drive because of the crash.
