BallPark Village welcomed Mizzou fans as the Tigers took on Memphis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
BallPark Village in Downtown St. Louis welcomed Mizzou fans as the University of Missouri took on University of Memphis Saturday.
Entertainment Manager for Ballpark Village Andrew Dreyer said around 5,000 fans are expected for the game. He said Downtown St. Louis is used to hosting big events, so there are no traffic or parking concerns.
The Mizzou Alumni Association is hosting a tailgate at Ballpark Village. This is a free event to attend with food and drinks available for purchase.
Ballpark Village is a little over half a mile from The Dome, only a 15-minute walk away. There is a free shuttle service to and from the tailgate for those with limited mobility.
Dreyer is a Mizzou alum himself and said seeing the team roll through downtown Friday got him even more excited.
"The fact that we're 3-0 and we won in dramatic fashion that last game, you couldn't ask for a better way to come marching in," Dreyer said.
Mizzou Alumni Ed King said he went to MU from 1977 to 1982 where he received his undergraduate and master's degrees and is now enjoying his retirement years cheering on the Tigers.
"We're out here just to enjoy ourselves today and cheer on the Tigers," said King.
"I went to all the games against Illinois for like five of them when they were here," said King. "Every time Missouri's beaten Illinois and beaten Illinois and beaten Illinois, and now we just need a win tonight."
Alumn Ian Russel is just as excited to see Mizzou at the Dome again.
"It feels great, you know. Look, we've been playing in Columbia for a really long time," said Russel. "We didn't play in St Louis since what? 2012? 2013? I think it's awesome. We're back again. I love this city. I love being here. I think it's awesome we're here."
This is the first time Mizzou football will play in St. Louis since the Arch Rivalry Series ended between Mizzou and Illinois in 2010.
"A lot of people are down here about our village. I think a lot of people going to be at the game," said Russell. "I saw something on Twitter that was like, what? Like a thousand tickets for Memphis fans. It's a sellout. Come on. We'll have fun."
