AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A junior lawyer testifying at Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial says he kept Paxton informed as he launched a criminal investigation into law enforcement officials at the behest of a wealthy donor to Paxton. Brandon Cammack also testified Tuesday that at Paxton’s urging they communicated through an encrypted messaging app. His testimony came on the sixth day of the historic proceeding. It addresses a central charge against Paxton. The Republican is accused of abusing his office to help real estate developer Nate Paul resist FBI investigation. Paxton pleaded not guilty at the impeachment trial. He has been absent for most of it.
