Douglass Park shooter gets nearly two decades in prison

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man who pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter and other charges in a deadly 2020 Douglass Park shooting was sentenced to almost two decades behind bars Friday.

Judge Brouck Jacobs sentenced Rickey Murry to 15 years for voluntary manslaughter and three years for armed criminal action at the Boone County Courthouse. The sentences will run consecutively.

He will receive credit for time served.

Murry pleaded guilty after reaching a deal with prosecutors just before his case was sent for trial.

Murry was accused in the shooting that killed Corey Jordan in August 2020. Police were called to Douglass Park at the time for a report of shots fired.

Police previously said around 100 people were around the area, some applying pressure to Jordan's wounds. Jordan was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

A witness told police at the time that Murry was "creeping around and hiding behind trees and vehicles" before getting into a confrontation with Jordan and shooting him, according to a probable cause statement.
