Insider Blog: How allergens are changing at the end of summer

The forecast has been centered on heat and dry conditions for much of recent memory, and something that may have been literally lost in the weeds is our allergens. Pollen count is still very high across Mid-Missouri, but the specific pollinators are changing heading into the new season.

Tree pollen season has been behind us for some time, coming to an end in the summertime. Most of the hot months are dominated by grasses and increasing weed pollen. Weeds peak around Labor Day in our area and continue to be the primary pollinator into fall.

As always, monitoring traction from outside is key to reducing impacts indoors. Leaving your shoes at the door, brushing off pets, and keeping windows closed can all help to keep excess pollen from entering your home. Up-to-standard filters are always important for good air quality inside, as well as keeping circulation going with A/C.
