Camden County deputy accused in child porn investigation, fired Tuesday
CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office said in a Wednesday press release that a now-former deputy has been accused in a child pornography investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the deputy and filed charges were not apparent on Casenet. The release stated the deputy was fired Tuesday “for policy violations.”
Sheriff Tony Helms stated in the press release that the office received information in June from a Cyber Tipline Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about someone possibly uploading child pornography in Camden County.
The release states the sheriff’s office became aware that a deputy was the apparent suspect in late July and the deputy was put on administrative leave on Aug. 1. The Sheriff had requested a special investigation be conducted by the Digital Forensics Investigative Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
“The investigation into the former deputy's criminal conduct continues,” the release states.
“There is no greater trust than that placed by the public into the hands of their law enforcement officers. I want to personally assure the people of Camden County that I take my deputy's behavior and responsibilities seriously,” Helms says in the release. “I hold each of my deputies to the highest degree of credibility and I expect them to hold themselves likewise. No one is above the law, regardless of their employment status in local, state, or federal government. I will not tolerate criminal behavior in Camden County and certainly not within my own office, and I want you, the citizens of Camden County, to know my resolve.”
