Insider Blog: Tracking Hurricane Hilary, and how it could affect SW states

As of now, Hurricane Hilary is a category 4 hurricane, with heavy rainfall over the Pacific and winds up to 145 mph. It's moving to the NW at 7 mph, already bringing heavy rainfall in some Mexican states, and is expected to make landfall in Baja California, a state in Mexico, by Saturday morning.

As Hurricane Hilary moves further north, it is expected to weaken in intensity, becoming a tropical storm by the time it crosses the Mexico-California border overnight Sunday into Monday morning. It will still be bringing heavy rainfall into the western states over the weekend and into next week, with the 1-7 day outlook for excessive rainfall by NOAA putting most of southern California into southern Nevada in the moderate (4/5) ranking.

Western parts of Arizona could also see excessive rainfall amounts, and all of these areas in the moderate ranking have a high chance for flooding over this period of time. The highest chances for flooding are along the main storm, which tracks through southern California into southern Nevada.
