Will a federal judge in Texas force Planned Parenthood to repay millions?

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas wants Planned Parenthood to return millions of dollars in Medicaid reimbursements and pay far more in fines. U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Amarillo held a hearing on the case Tuesday but did not issue a ruling. It appears to be the first lawsuit of its kind by a state against the nation’s largest abortion provider. At issue is money Planned Parenthood received for providing health services to low-income women before Texas removed the organization from the state’s Medicaid program in 2021. Planned Parenthood has about three dozen health clinics in the state. Most abortions have been outlawed there since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year.
