Drier pattern in the coming weeks as drought holds

Rainfall early this month has already been record-setting as Columbia has recorded its third wettest August ever so far. The majority of the area is above-average on rain, with parts of Mid-Missouri receiving over three times their normal rainfall in recent weeks. Though this hasn't been enough to break our long-term drought, and the rest of the month is not looking as promising.

Drought is still at severe to extreme levels for much of Mid-MO, and farmers say recent rain is coming too late in the season. Crop yields have already been affected and hay supplies continue to struggle to keep up with demand. The next few weeks are set to dry out again as high pressure parks over much of the region. This could continue to strain agricultural resources as the area reels from the summer drought.
